The UV curable ink for glass avoids the need for high temperature annealing and provides almost unlimited color range. The annealing furnace is a heat treatment system, basically an oven with a conveyor belt that moves through the center, and the center is used to solidify and dry the ink when decorating the glass. For ceramic inks, the temperature needs to be as high as about 1400 degrees, while for organic inks, it is about 350 degrees. The latest UV-curable inks only need to be cured by ultraviolet light; and this can be done in a printing machine or a small oven at the end of the production line. Since there is only a few seconds of exposure time, much less energy is required.
