One of the 100 great Italian wineries, full of history and charm

Abruzzo is a wine-producing region on the east coast of Italy with a winemaking tradition dating back to the 6th century BC. Abruzzo wines account for 6% of Italian wine production, of which red wines account for 60%.
Italian wines are known for their unique flavours and lesser known for their simplicity, and the Abruzzo region offers a plethora of delightful, simple wines that appeal to many wine lovers.

Château de Mars was founded in 1981 by Gianni Masciarelli, a charismatic man who pioneered the rebirth of viticulture in the Abruzzo region and opened a new chapter in the world of winemaking. He succeeded in making two of the most important grape varieties in the region, Trebbiano and Montepulciano, world-renowned excellent varieties. Marciarelli combines rural traditions with the improvement of local vines, showing how regional values can be brought to the world through wine.

Abruzzo
The Abruzzo region is very diverse: the rocky landscape is rugged and charming, from mountains to rolling hills to the Adriatic Sea. Here, Gianni Masciarelli, who, along with his wife Marina Cvetic, has dedicated his life to vines and high-end wines, has paid tribute to his love with a series of important labels wife. Over the years, Gianni has strengthened and promoted the development of local grapes, making Montepulciano d’Abruzzo an excellent viticultural area worldwide.

In the winery’s Ampera heritage, international excellence grape varieties have also gained a place. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Perdori, have been able to enter attractive niche markets in Italy and other countries. The variety of terroirs and microclimates of Abruzzo allows for original interpretations of these international varieties, proving the region’s amazing viticultural potential.

The history of Masciarelli is also a history of winemaking in Italy, the heart of which is located in San Martino sulla Marrucina, in the province of Chieti, where the main wineries are located and can be visited every day by appointment. But to experience the full Chateau Marsch, a visit to Castello di Semivicoli is indispensable: a 17th-century baronial palace purchased by the Marsch family and converted into a wine resort. Full of history and charm, it is an irreplaceable stop on wine tourism in the region.
